According to the latest news online news giant Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) is set to shift its driverless car technology into a new business which will be called Waymo.
Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) said to be the sole owner of Waymo.
This is a big sign that Google is looking to make a sturdy push to commercialize the technology which company has been creating for more than a decade.
In the introductory event Google displayed the story of a blind man who was able to make a full trip using a model self-driving car. The trip was made and filmed in 2015, but Google revealed it for the very first time on Tuesday.
“Steve Mahan rode alone in one of our prototype vehicles, cruising through Austin’s suburbs,” wrote Google’s John Krafcik.
“Steve is legally blind, so our sensors and software were his chauffeur.”
Furthermore, Mr Krafcik said: “We believe that this technology can begin to reshape some of the ten trillion miles that motor vehicles travel around the world every year, with safer, more efficient and more accessible forms of transport.”
The firm said it will try to apply the expertise behind self-driving vehicles to utilize it in other resolves. That simply means that sudden urgency in finding instant commercial uses for the technology which, so far, has only been utilized by Google in tests.
Despite the fact other rivals in the space, like Tesla, have accomplished to roll out elements of self-driving technology to real roads, Google has been taking a far more watchful approach.
Moreover Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) did not answered the questions on the reports that it was ending making its own car in favor of working with more customary car-makers.
