Vauxhall is ending Football team sponsorship to market individual products

UK’s Vauxhall is set to finish its sponsorship of the home nations soccer teams after the 2018 World Cup.

The carmaker has been main sponsor of the England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland teams since 2011. Vauxhall spokeswoman said that the company is looking to start separate marketing campaigns for individual models.

According to reports, only the sponsorship deal of England soccer team is thought to be worth in the around £5m to £6m per year.

Company’s spokeswoman said in a statement that In 2011, Vauxhall signed the deal, at that time it did not have many new products coming out, but wanted to keep its brand “front of mind”. However at this moment Vauxhall’s “business priorities have changed” and it is looking to put money into marketing models such as the Crossland X SUV and the Insignia Grand Sport, she added.

Nevertheless, Vauxhall is not ruling out other sponsorship deals.

“Since 2011, Vauxhall has been very proud to be the lead sponsor for each of the four home nations football associations (FAs), the first time this has ever been undertaken by a major organisation,” it said.

Vauxhall had “agreed to explore other opportunities to continue its relationship with the FAs beyond the conclusion of the existing contracts.” it added.

Meanwhile the English football association said “active discussions are under way regarding a lower level partnership” with Vauxhall.

England soccer team is presently sponsor by Ladbrokes, supermarket chain Lidl, Mars chocolate and Carlsberg.

Furthermore the Scottish FA said it is open to all options as it has initiated the process of looking for a new main sponsor that was in the best interests of Scottish football.

Head of Wales FA, Jonathan Ford, said Vauxhall affiliation has been great success for both parties. Both have enjoyed brilliant working relationship. Now FA is aiming for similar success with our potential lead sponsor.

The Irish Football Association also highlighted an excellent working relationship with Vauxhall, and have hoped to continue the tradition with the future sponsor.
